Watts Towers Arts Center

In late 1994, I went to the Watts Towers Art Center in South Central Los Angeles, to see if they would be willing to put up an exhibition of my African portraiture. To my good fortune, Mark Greenfield was director at the time, and he not only readily agreed, but asked me to teach photography to "at-risk" youth in the community, on the budget of the LA Cultural Affairs Dept. This included putting together a kids-friendly darkroom, and we were off and running. Ultimately we took part in an exhibition somewhere in Santa Monica, in concert with kids Lauren Greenfield was working with in Venice, and another group from Pasadena.
